Isabel P. Schempp

Delmar - Isabel P. Schempp, 99, of Rockefeller Road passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at the St. Peter’s Hospice Inn in Albany.

She was born Isabel Gladys Poyer on August 20, 1921, in Ithaca NY, the daughter of Floyd and Mary (Mitchell) Poyer. She married her sweetheart, John A. Schempp at the Sage Chapel on the campus of Cornell University Ithaca, New York on October 6, 1942. Mr. Schempp died on May 19, 1991 in Lehigh Acres Florida.

Isabel was also predeceased by her daughter, Mary Jean Schempp Boyka Brannon, her sister Jean Poyer Salzman and her husband Martin (Bud), her brother Dana Poyer and wife Shirley, and her brother in law John R. Brown.

Isabel was a homemaker and an accomplished seamstress, having sewn wedding gowns for 2 of her daughters. Her other favorite past times were baking and playing her favorite hymns on her keyboard. Isabel worked briefly for the bridal department at Sears, she received a senior citizens award several years ago, having been nominated by her pastor.  She was a longtime member of McKnownville Methodist Church.

She is survived by her daughters, Nancy L.(William) Matt of Loudonville, Beatrice A. (Robert) Crocetta, of Palm Coast, Florida, Susan M. (Robert) McCue, of West Chester, PA and her son, John A. (Bethany) Schempp, Jr. of Webster, NY; and her sister Marion Brown of Webster, NY.  She is also survived by her beloved 8 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren with the 13th due in November, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank St. Peters Hospital, and St. Peters Hospice Inn for making her last days comfortable, as well as the staff at Good Samaritan Lutheran Home for their care and concern they gave Isabel these past few years.

A graveside service will be held at 11:30am Friday, September 4th, at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Colonie.
