Hazel K. Lanza

Colonie - Hazel Katherine Lanza passed away on September 6th 2024 peacefully surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Hazel was predeceased by her husband and soul mate of over 70 years Charles Lanza. She was also predeceased by her mother Katherine Lovely, her father James Lovely, and her brother James Sivers. Hazel was the proud mother to five children Dianne Lanza, Suzanne Lanza Skaarup, Darlene Skaarup (late Todd), Gail Laier (David), and Charles Lanza (Melinda). Hazel was the funny and loving grandmother to Victoria Taylor, Benjamin Ostrander, Angeline Pannitti, Amber Brower, Brianna Laier, Alex and Nicholas Lanza as well as Charlie Lanza. She was also the Great-Grandmother to Viviana Brower and Benjamin Ostrander.

Hazel was one of a kind, she will forever be remembered for her spunky yet very lovable personality. Hazel loved to read and would love to get lost in a good romance novel. She also loved to travel, holidays with her family, and was a big fan of the king himself, Elvis Presley. Hazel loved to send her kids and grandkids cards in the mail to remind them how much they meant to her. Hazel liked to teach her children and grandchildren about Jesus and how to say their prayers. Her love was unconditional for all her children and grandchildren. She will forever be missed, but we know she is now reunited with the love of her life Charlie.

The family acknowledges Hazel’s late son in law Todd Skaarup who selflessly helped care for and support her during her illness. He often would miss many weekends caring for Hazel while Darlene worked. He really loved his mother-in-law, she’d drive him crazy but his kindness never wavered.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Ave. Colonie. Funeral services will be private. Interment will be in Memory Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, (www.alz.org).
