Harold "Guy" T. Gaunay

East Greenbush - Harold “Guy” Gaunay, 85, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 8, 2024 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Harold A. and Mary M. (Navojoskey) Gaunay.

Guy grew up in Troy and was a 1956 graduate of Catholic Central High School. He proudly served in the US Navy from 1957-1960. On December 5, 1959, he married Margaret Brearton, his cherished wife 58 years until her passing in 2017. In addition to his parents and his wife, Guy was pre-deceased by his daughter Carol Gaunay, his brother Jim Gaunay, and his sister Shirley Gilmore.

Guy was a highly respected New York State Trooper for twenty-five years, retiring in 1991 as a Sergeant. He was then employed by the US Marshall’s Office in Albany for fifteen years.

Guy was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed hunting, golf, and vacationing with family to Hilton Head, S.C. and Barbados.

He is the devoted father of James (Karen) Gaunay of Malta and Timothy (Angela) Gaunay of Wynantskill. Guy is the cherished grandfather of Kristin (Matthew) Galante, Eric (Chelsey) Gaunay, Ashley (Phil) Gaunay, and Justin (Kim) Cooper. He is the great-grandfather of Gianna & Julia Galante. He is also survived by his loving niece and caregiver Jennifer (David) Siegal, two nephews, Tommy Gilmore and Jamie Gilmore and several other nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am Friday, April 12 at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 175 Williams Road, Troy. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:00am to 10:30am Friday at the Church prior to the Mass. Entombment will be at a later date at Saratoga National Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Dr. Joseph Seguel, Veronica McGill, RN and the staff of the Eddy Visiting Nurse’s as well as the staff of The Community Hospice for their care and support during Guy’s illness.
