Albany - Gwendolyn L. Venable, 72, of Central Avenue was called home to the Lord on Thursday, July 8, 2021
Born on November 11, 1948 in Tallahassee, Florida, she was the daughter of John and Lizzie (Session) Thomas.
She retired from St. Peter’s Hospital where she was employed as a sterilization processor for many years.
Gwen was a member of Metropolitan Baptist Church in Albany.
Besides her parents, she is pre-deceased by her husband Arthur Venable, granddaughter Shadaya Carr; brothers Willie James, Willie, Johnny, Tom, LeRoy, Lester, and Charles; and sisters: Mary Kornegay and Christine Thomas.
She leaves to mourn her absence her children: Leslie (Michael) Venable-Baxter and Angela (Shameek) Staley; grandchildren: Shalona Wylie, Tasharon Carr, Shanika Venable, Keith Ferguson, and Ronneisha Workman; great-grandchildren: Mariah Surgick, Na’zarie Caldwell, Sur’Gion Surgick, Ra’sai Caldwell, ZyHir Carr, Rose Blades, and Melody Blades; sisters: Katherine Worthen and Ernestine Derico-Walker; God Children: Charles Pounds and Dashaya Smythe; special friend Gerald Smith, and a host of extended family and friends including special niece Bonnie Everett
A Home-going service will be held at 12 Noon Saturday, July 17, 2021 at Elijah Missionary Baptist Church, 70 Second Avenue, Albany. Rev. Dr. Damone P. Johnson will officiate. Calling hours will be held from 10am to 12 Noon at the church prior to the service. Following the service, repass will follow at the First Congregational Church, 405 Quail Street, Albany.
