Gisela M. Choi

July 26, 1931 — August 11, 2024

COLONIE – Gisela M. Choi, 93, of Colonie, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 11, 2024 at her residence. She was born in Dresden, Germany and immigrated to the United States in 1956.

She was a talented dressmaker and seamstress who worked for designers in the Fashion District of New York City.  It was in that great melting pot where she met her husband Joseph while taking a dance class on the rooftop of the YWCA.   A devout Catholic who never missed Mass and frequently prayed the rosary, Gisela would often tell people the next place she wanted to go was heaven.  She brought joy to everybody she encountered with a smile and wave, and telling them how wonderful they were.  A dedicated and vigorous walker for many decades, she completed the Freihofer’s 5K well into her 80s.

She was predeceased by her beloved Joseph in 2022, and by her siblings Felix, Hans, Leo, Regina, Erika and Cecilia and her parents Felix and Jeanne.  Gisela was the devoted mother of Erika Choi of Colonie and Kenneth (Joyce) Choi of Niskayuna and grandmother of Claire, Thomas and Matthew Choi.

The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers for their loving and gentle care for the past two and half years, especially Kathy, Janice, Michelle, Ashley, Harmony and Brenda.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Gisela’s family on Thursday from 4 to 6 pm at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Ave., Colonie. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at  10:00 am at St. Clare’s Church, 1947 Central Ave., Colonie. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens.
