George D. Kretzler

COLONIE – George D. Kretzler, 73, of Colonie, passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2024 at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston after a brief illness.

He was born in Albany and was the son of the late George and Mary Kretzler. George was a 1970 graduate of Colonie Central High School. He had worked for Colonie Masonry, BBL Construction and Local 294 in Albany for many years where he was also known as Smitty. He later worked for Kaiser Autobody, Orange Motors and DePaula Ford. George enjoyed camping and spending time with his cherished family at his lake house at Sacandaga Lake. He loved to sit in the sun at the end of the day and relax with an ice cold beer.

George is the beloved husband of fifty-two years to Robin Bard Kretzler. He is the devoted father of Heather (Lance) Hopeck and Heidi (Tony) Blake. He is the loving Poppie of Ryleigh, Maddy and Addyson Hopeck; Hailey, Olivia and Lainey Blake. George is the brother of Judy Scaringe, Raymond (Anne) Kretzler,  Donna Lysiak (late John), Patty (Steve) Paradiso and the late Diane Kelly. He is also survived by several brother and sister in laws, nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be Wednesday morning at 11:00 am at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Ave. Colonie. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with George’s family on Tuesday from 4 to 7 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memory Gardens.
