Geertruida "Trudy" Van Den Heuvel

Colonie - Geertruida “ Trudy” Van Den Heuvel, 82, of Girard Court passed away Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady following a short illness.

She grew up and was educated in The Netherlands.

On May 23, 1961, she married Richard Van Den Heuvel. For their honeymoon, they cruised to America, settling in Colonie, NY.

In earlier years, she was employed as a LPN at St Peters Hospital. She retired from the American Red Cross where she was employed for many years.

She was a communicant of St. Clare’s Church in Colonie.  She enjoyed handcrafts-sewing, knitting, crocheting.

She will be remembered as someone who loved being with people and always first to help anyone in need. Trudy was very proud of her Dutch Heritage and was a member the Albany Dutch Club, attending various Cultural events and was a member of the “Red Hat Society”.  Upon retirement, she enjoyed traveling far and near with her husband.

Besides her husband, she is pre-deceased by siblings Hendricus Rochus and Hendricka Geertruida.

She was gratefully loved and will be sorely missed by her loving family –her daughter Anita (Patrick) O’Callaghan and grandson Daniel all of Greenville and her son Rene (Debbie) Van Den Heuvel and granddaughter Jessica (Cody) Woodward of Roanoke, VA; cherished siblings: Rochus Hendricus, Leonardus and Johannus as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

Calling hours will be held from 4:00pm to 7:00pm with a funeral service at 7:00pm Wednesday, June 23 at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Ave, Colonie.
