Albany - Gaetano Cioppa, 83, of Ramsey Place passed away Sunday evening February 12, 2023, at his home.
Born in Albany, NY, he was the son of Joseph and Erminia (Cioffi) Cioppa.
A lifelong resident, he was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy and HVCC with a degree in Architectural Technology.
From 1959 to 1961, he served in the US Army as Aerial Recon in West Germany.
He owned and operated the Bottoms Up Grill in Albany from 1964-2003.
He was well known and loved for his great stories, sense of humor and compassionate heart. An avid history buff, he never stopped learning and had many interests. He especially enjoyed scuba diving, traveling, and sports. He was a lifelong Yankees and Steelers fan.
A devoted family man, his greatest joy was spending time with his wife and family. He worked hard, lived life to the fullest and was a role model to many.
In addition to his parents, he is pre-deceased by sisters: Georgianna Verleger and Rita Good as well as his sister-in-law Georgette (Koonz) Tuzzolo.
He leaves his loving wife of 53 years Laurel (Koonz) Cioppa; his children Erminia Bauer of Niskayuna, Joseph Cioppa of Apopka, FL and Charlese (Kevin) Cioppa of Albany. Grandchildren: Kristina, Marisa, Chelse, Josephina, Michaela, Joshua, Sarah, and Scott; 5 great-grandchildren, a sister Mary Louise (Tony) Mancini, brother-in-law John Good and his nieces and nephews.
