Halfmoon – Frank Mielewski, 89, beloved husband of Amelia Osier for 66 years, peacefully entered into eternal life on Friday, July 14 at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
He was born on July 6, 1934 and lived on Third Ave. in Watervliet. He is predeceased by his parents John Chmielewski and Catherine Gush Chmielewski, brothers Chester (Kay) Melewski, Bernard Melewski, John Mielewski III, William Mielewski, sister Gertrude (Alex) Sally, and his son Ronald Mielewski.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include his loving children Gary Mielewski, Michele Mielewski, Sheila (David) Messore, Robert (Eileen) Mielewski and Dawn (Rob) Gautreau. Frank was blessed with 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Rosalind Melewski, Leona Mielewski and Annette Mielewski, many wonderful nieces, and nephews, along with his daughter-in-law Colleen Mielewski.
Frank graduated from LaSalle Institute in Troy, served in the US Army from 1957 to 1959, and was a devoted machine technician at Norton Company in Watervliet and Bendix in Green Island until his retirement. He then built (by himself) his beloved camp in Ticonderoga, NY, where he would spend his time cutting grass and tending to trails. Frank was an avid hunter, enjoyed throwing parties for the entire family, working on puzzles, and listening to Polka music on Sunday mornings.
