Troy - On Monday November 11, 2024, Flossie Lee Cooper Walker, 94 passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones at her home in Myrtle Beach, SC.
Flossie was born on February 1, 1930, in Sheridan, Arkansas to the late Levi and Philistine Cooper. She grew up in a Christian family and was a member of Davis Creek Baptist Church, Prattsville, Arkansas.
After relocating to Troy, NY during the “Great Migration” on July 18, 1953, Flossie married Wayman “Buster” Walker Sr. (deceased). Flossie and Buster went on to have 7 children, Hercule Cooper (Nona) of Malvern Ark, Robert Coleman (deceased), Wayman Walker Jr. (Edie) of Watervliet, NY, Kenneth Walker (Priscilla) of Troy, NY, Phyllis Walker of Troy, NY, Lillian Middleton (Roderick) of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Charles Walker (Kathleen) of Troy, NY.
Flossie worked at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home for many years making friendships that lasted a lifetime. Later she went on to work at Samaritan Hospital where she retired in 1990. Although she was “retired,” Flossie never stopped working. She was always on call and helping friends, loved ones, and even strangers.
Flossie was preceded in death by her husband Wayman Walker Sr., son Robert L. Coleman, parents Levi and Philistine Cooper, grandson Hercule Cooper Jr., brothers Alcine Cooper, Wilbur Cooper, Calve Cooper, and sisters Clora Fletcher, and Palistine Cooper.
In addition to her 6 children, 21 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren, Flossie is survived by her two lovely sisters Rosetta Junior of South Bend, IN and Elizabeth McNut (Secre) of Colt, AR. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Flossie lived a beautiful and rewarding life. She was devoted to her family, friends and her Bethel Baptist Church family (over 60 years). Flossie always wanted your name, phone number, and address. She enjoyed babysitting, caring for others, talking on the phone, and crocheting. Flossie spent her entire life worrying about others and did so until the very end.
Funeral services will be Saturday morning at 11:00 at Bethel Baptist Church, 2165 5th Ave., Troy. Viewing will precede the service, from 9 to 11 am at the Church. To leave a message of condolence for the family, visit www.CannonFuneral.com
