Albany
Erica Kay Waters, Esq., age 32, passed away on the evening of October 30, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born and raised in Canton, New York. She earned her bachelor's degree from Randolph-Macon College in Virginia, graduating early, and graduated from Albany Law School of Union University in 2015, again remarkably graduating early.
Erica was admitted to the New York State Bar Association and worked as an associate at local matrimonial law firms before establishing her own practice, known as The Law Office of Erica Kay Waters located at 270 Mt. Hope Drive in Albany. The core principle of her firm was to offer personalized and attentive legal services to clients facing challenging situations, without the bureaucratic approach often seen in high-volume firms. She provided legal representation to individuals in cases related to matrimonial, family law, wills, and criminal matters, as well as offering legal support to businesses in general business-related issues.
It was her dream to open her own firm. Prior to her death, Erica was in the process of expanding her firm having hired her first summer law clerk, Sam. She shared office space with John “Jack” Dennis, who was instrumental in helping her take the leap of opening her first physical location. That is where she met Jack’s paralegal, Christine Sullivan, who became a fast and close friend until the end. Christine helped find Erica’s office puppy, Louella, who helped Erica recover after her dog Marley’s death.
In her leisure time, she cherished activities such as figure skating, golfing, skiing, and spending quality moments with her rescue animals: Marley, Apollo, Betsy, Murray, Ahri, and the newest addition, Louella, affectionately known as "Louie."
Erica is survived by her significant other, David I. Iversen, of Albany; her parents, Rolf and Yvonne Waters, of Slingerlands; her brother, Camron Waters, of Rochester; and her maternal grandparents, John and Kay Mcintosh, of Canton, along with several cousins. She also leaves behind her supportive best friend, Asa Neff, and his two children, Thomas and Abigail Neff. She treated Thomas and Abigail as if they were her own and they gave her incredible comfort and support over the past year.
