DELMAR – Elizabeth Louise Koch, 88, of Delmar, passed away peacefully at her residence on Friday, December 15, 2023. She was born in Albany and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Flynn.
Betty was a 1953 graduate of Vincentian Institute and a 1956 graduate of St. Peter’s School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. She moved to Washington DC in 1959 where she attended The Catholic University of America and obtained her BS and MS degree in Nursing. Betty taught for many years at the Washington Hospital School of Nursing in DC. In her spare time, she obtained an associate degree in computer science. Betty met and married Stanley Koch and they moved to Silver Spring MD. She answered an ad that GE Information Services was looking for someone with a medical background and knowledge of computers. Betty applied and worked for GE for 17 years traveling nationally and internationally teaching computer applications for clients with GEIS. After retiring from GEIS, she worked at the InterAmerican Development Bank in their health unit. Following the death her husband, she moved back to Delmar in 2013.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Koch and her husband Victor Chew. She is the cherished aunt of Karen Flynn, John (Patricia) Flynn, Mary Jane (Frank) Gallo, Cathy (Ray) Zimmerman, Kathy (Norman) Chu, Valerie Huss, Beth (Meyer) Chambers, Peter (Cindy) Hines and the late Susan Flynn. Betty is the great aunt of John, Padric, Brendan and Joseph Flynn, Anthony, Michael and Mary Frances Gallo, Susan Hill and Meghan Gallagher, Natalie Chu and Eric Strand.
Services in celebration of Betty’s life will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at 12:00 at Cannon Funeral home, 2020 Central Ave., Colonie. Visitation will be from 11 to 12 noon on Thursday, prior to the service. Interment will be private. Memorial contributions may be made in Betty’s name to the American Red Cross, (www.redcross.org) 33 Everett Rd., Albany, NY 12205.
