Elizabeth (Betty) Sheehy Garhartt

COLONIE - Elizabeth (Betty) M. Sheehy Garhartt, 96, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, February 1, 2017.

Daughter of the late Mary Robinson Egan and Philip Egan, she was born and raised in North Albany. Betty was a 1940 graduate of Cathedral Academy. She was employed for many years at Macy’s retiring in 1982. Betty was the first President of the North Albany American Legion Post 1610 Ladies Auxiliary in 1948 and remained a current member at her passing. She was also a member of the Altar Rosary Society of Our Lady of Mercy and Christ Our Light Churches. As a member of the North Albany Limericks, she was honored to be the Grand Marshall of the N. Albany and Albany St. Patrick’s Day Parades in 2006.

Betty was predeceased by her husbands, Richard J. Sheehy and Leigh J. Garhartt, as well as her daughter, Donna S. Eastman; her sisters Winifred Osl, Agnes Fournier and Margaret (Peg) Jubic; and her brothers James (Skip) and Vince Egan.

She is survived by her children, Richard M. Sheehy, Judith (Larry) Benner, Richard J. (Marion) Garhartt and Leigh J. (Andrea) Garhartt; her sister Phyllis Egan and her brother Phillip (Ann) Egan. Betty leaves behind her cherished 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, son-in-law Art Eastman, sister-in-law Joan Egan and several nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday morning, February 8, at 10:00 at Christ Our Light Catholic Church, 1 Maria Drive, Loudonville. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 pm at Christ Our Light Catholic Church. Interment will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery.
