Elizabeth G. Owens

Troy - Elizabeth “Betty” G. Owens, 102, passed away July 21, 2023, at James A. Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center.

Born on August 16, 1920, in Troy, NY, Elizabeth was the daughter of George Goodwin and Lavinia St. John Goodwin.

Elizabeth was a lifelong resident of Troy. She was a homemaker and had been employed at the Watervliet Arsenal and Cluett & Peabody for many years before raising her children.  Elizabeth was a communicant of the former St. Peter’s Church in Troy, where she was awarded the Rev. Thomas K. Flanigan Humanitarian Award after 30 years of active participation in many church activities, especially their dinners. She was also an active volunteer with the Seton Auxiliary at St Mary’s Hospital.

Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband Charles W. Owens and daughters Kathleen Marie and Elizabeth Ann. She is survived by her two children: Micaela (Francis) Degnan and Gregory (Patricia) Owens; 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

In addition to family losses, Elizabeth out lived all of her closest friends, often remembering them with an anecdote. Betty continued to make friends among her family at the Eddy and we all would like to thank the staff at the Eddy for their kindness, love and support they provided in her declining years.

Friends and family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at 10am at RPI Chapel and Cultural Center, 2125 Burdett Avenue, Troy.
