Elaine M. Curran

May 13, 1931 — January 28, 2022

Albany - Elaine Miller Curran, born on May 13, 1931 to parents Helen Hennessey Miller and David Robert Miller, passed away peacefully at Teresian House on January 28, 2022 at the age of 90. Elaine grew up in Albany, attending Vincentian Institute, graduating in 1950. She was then employed as a policy rater for Employers Mutual Insurance Company of Wausau. She met the love of her life , William Hunter Curran, in Lake George and married him on August 14, 1954 at St. Vincent DePaul. This love affair has endured for nearly 70 years.

During her years of marriage, Elaine was involved as a Girl Scout Brownie leader for her daughters’ troops. She was also a volunteer at St. Clare’s Hospital, volunteering as a buyer for the gift shop, participating in the fundraising effort, the St. Clare’s Follies, and developing an orientation program for children coming to the hospital for surgeries. Elaine then worked for Talbot’s and her actual income remains unclear, but she was certainly impeccably dressed.

Elaine’s most important job and the one she both excelled at and enjoyed the most was as a mother to her four daughters. Her love and sense of humor made her the perfect role model to her daughters as they have become mothers.

Elaine became a skier in her 30’s, a runner in her 40’s, participating for many years in the Freihofer Run for Women and started playing golf in her 60’s. She loved her days at the Mohawk Golf Club and had many friends there. Elaine and Bill enjoyed traveling to Ireland, Bermuda and throughout the United States but most enjoyed traveling to see their daughters and their families. Most remembered by her friends and family are her amazing meals prepared with love, including Thanksgiving dinners and Easter brunches, at which no one was a stranger, and all were welcome.

Elaine is survived and adored by her husband Bill, her four daughters Faith Kayajian (Charles), Ellen Davis (Hugh), Sheila Woelfel (John) and Maureen VanDeusen (Richard). Elaine is also survived by her grandchildren Charles Kayajian, Jr., Elizabeth Kayajian (Garrett Huddy), Emily Davis, William Davis, Hunter VanDeusen, Victoria VanDeusen and Brigid Woelfel and a great granddaughter, Isla Huddy and another great granddaughter to be born in April. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Edmund Walsh, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Elaine is predeceased by her parents, her brother David Robert Miller and his wife Jacqueline, her sister Margaret Pfister and her husband Charles, her mother-in law Alma Curran, her sister-in-law Patricia Carroll and her husband John Carroll and her sister-in-law Marcia Walsh.
