COLONIE – Edward G. Rhynders, 86, of Colonie passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Albany and was the son of the late Foster and Helen Rhynders. Ed served in the US Navy Reserves for many years. He was employed with Niagara Mohawk for thirty-seven years, retiring as a gas foreman. He was a longtime member and officer with the Fuller Rd Fire Dept and the Colonie Village Fire Company. He proudly volunteered and served in many capacities with the Fire Departments. Ed was one of the first Paramedics in the town of Colonie. He enjoyed camping at Minerva Lake, fishing, hunting, traveling, swimming and being with his family.
Ed is the beloved husband of 65 years to Phyllis Crosier Rhynders. He is the devoted father of Edward A. (Joanne) Rhynders, Lee Ann (Rick) Dunn and Kelli (James) Sheehan. He is the brother of Foster (Cassie) Rhynders and the late Karen Neale (Ray survives). Ed is the grandfather of Kayla Rhynders, Nicole Rhynders and Ryan Dunn. He is the uncle of Randy Rhynders, Shannon Hamilton, Renee Keosaian and Kim Bullis. He is the longtime cherished friend of Ed and Shirley Frank, Jan Small, Dottie Lanci and Ed and Marilyn Reynolds. Ed will be dearly missed by his canine companion, Merk.
The family is most grateful to Ed’s wonderful caregivers, Eileen, Joe, Steve and Deana and their kind neighbors, Shawn, Niki and Kathy.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Ed’s family on Wednesday from 4 to 7 pm at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Ave., Colonie. Funeral services will be Thursday morning at 10:00 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens.
