Schenectady- Edward Rudolph Rapp, born May 19, 1923, died Friday, June 1, 2018 at the age of 95. He was the son of the late William and Anna (Mayrhofer) Rapp who immigrated to this country from Austria.
Ed grew up in South Berne with his 8 brothers and sisters. He enlisted in the US Navy during WWII and served on a wooden “sub chaser” in the South Pacific. Upon his return home from overseas he wooed and married (the pretty girl in the yellow dress), Betty Herzog.
They started a life and family together in the Helderbergs
During his career, Ed worked many places including Campbell Plastics, Schaefer Brewery and finally as a union electrician (IBEW) retiring in 1988 at the age of 65. He and his wife Betty enjoyed many happy years in retirement. They traveled the country in an RV, visiting all 50 states and spending their 50th wedding anniversary in Hawaii where they renewed their wedding vows. They finally settled down by spending summers at their camp on Keyser Lake and winters as “snow birds” in LaBelle, Florida where they made many life long friends. They returned to the Capital District when Betty became ill.
Ed could do just about anything! He was a talented electrician, mechanic, builder, gardener and inventor. He was a loving, loyal and devoted family man and friend.
