Dorothy J. Polk

ALBANY – Dorothy Jean Polk, widow of Deward W. Polk passed away on Sunday, December 24, 2023 at Teresian House Nursing Home after a long struggle with Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia.

Born in Chatham, NY, she was the daughter of the late Lee Cookingham and Sarah Clarkson (Haverlick).

Dorothy met her husband Deward in Bermuda and they were married in 1959. In addition to Bermuda, they were stationed in Key West, FL, Newport, RI, Seal Beach, CA and San Diego, CA. After Deward’s retirement in 1975 they became longtime residents of Troy, living in the Lansingburgh area for 43 years.

She is survived by her children Deward W. Polk Jr of Chatsworth, GA and Donna J. Lawya of Menands; one sister, Donna Haverlick of Albany: three grandchildren, Timothy and Aaron Lawya of Albany and Shannon Lawya of Waterford.

Visitation and funeral services will be held from 10:00 to 11:30 on Friday, January 5, 2024 at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Ave, Albany. Interment will immediately follow in the Old Chatham Union Cemetery, Chatham.
