SCHENECTADY – Dora M. Richute, 87, formerly of Schenectady, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 8, at the Teresian House, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Fontechiari, Italy and was the daughter of the late Ernesto and Ida Bassi. Dora was predeceased by her beloved husband of 57 years, Anthony Richute in 2008.
Dora was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. They say it takes a village, in our eyes, she was the village. In addition to nurturing her own children, she represented a mother figure to many of her childrens’ friends, nieces & nephews. Those who knew her always said she was the most unselfish person they'd met. She derived great joy from doing for others and was a woman who rarely, if ever, "asked" for anything, which in return, earned her the deepest of love & respect from her children, family & friends. A woman with a loving heart, one that had no boundaries and a beautiful and generous spirit. She welcomed all into her home, whether for an hour, a week or a month. Her passions were few but deep-rooted; her husband, her children and grandchildren were always the greatest joy in her life, as well was spending time with her sister "El". As a teenager, Dora was one of two students selected to join an All State music chorale representing the City of Schenectady. She enjoyed music & singing to her Mario Lanza records as she cooked for what always seemed like masses of people. Her camp on Sacandaga Lake brought her, along with so many others, good times & wonderful memories. She will be forever cherished and live in our hearts eternally.
The family would like to thank her many caregivers, both past and present, for the loving care they provided Dora over the past six years at the Teresian House. A special thank you to Rosanne Villano for her devotion to her "2nd mom" and the comfort she provided our family.
Dora is the beloved Mother of Ernie (Sharon) Richute, Luci Treffiletti Cody (Harry Hayes) and Sharon (Todd) Ferraro. She is the sister of Elena Isabella (late Carmine) and the late Louis (Margaret), Guy (Theresa) Bassi and Emma (Amedeo) Ferrante. She is the cherished grandmother of Tara Treffiletti Burnham, Nicholas Treffiletti, Falon (Brent) Ferraro Marianetti, Brandon (Emily) Ferraro, Marissa Richute and Rob (Jessica) Burke. Great grandmother of Frankie Ferraro, Mason, Devin and Chase Burke. She is the sister in law of Joan Paolucci. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
