Donald “Don” Harold Vice, 71, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 13, 2023 after a long illness. Donald was born in Albany, NY on July 8,1951, son of the late Queenie Anne Mackey Dow Vice and James Vice.
Donald attended Albany High School and went on to train as a journeyman in commercial carpentry and welding. Of the many buildings and places he built and cared for, he was most proud of donating his labor to the construction of the Grafton Peace Pagoda, which was completed in 1993.
Donald loved to cook for his family, crafting creative dishes and planning and making all the holiday meals. He also enjoyed gardening, spending time in the outdoors and listening to all genres of music from classical to country.
Donald is predeceased by his beloved wife, Margaret “Peggy” Campbell. Surviving Donald are his cherished children Delial Shawn Schalit (Candice), Carmen Sebro (Stephen), Elizabeth McMurry (Joseph) and Sheryl Singleton (Timothy), and dear grandchildren Maleek, Amir, Levi, Finn, Jared, Timaia, Joshua and Jaden, as well as several great-grandchildren.
Also surviving Donald are six siblings, Johnnie Mae Dow-Miller, Florence Dow-Gayle, Louise Dow-Danzy, Jackie Vice, Willie (Billy) Vice and Richard Vice, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Donald is predeceased by six siblings, Joseph Dow, Barbara Ann Vice, Doris Dow, James Dow, Marguerite Dow and Johnnie Dow Jr.
Services will be held at Cannon Funeral Home at 2020 Central Avenue, Albany on Monday March 20, with the viewing at 11:00 am followed by services at 12:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, c/o the Roswell Park Alliance Foundation would be appreciated.
