Dennis Tyrone Morton

Dennis Tyrone Morton was born in Halifax County, Virginia on September 26, 1961, and passed away at Health Alliance Hospital in Kingston on May 20, 2021. He was the son of Lottie Dabbs-Morton and the late Charles Edward Morton.

Dennis attended Peekskill High School and was a proud member of the Mount Olivet Baptist Church in Peekskill, NY, where he received his baptism by Reverend G. Franklin Wiggins. Although he never married, he spent three decades in a committed relationship with Jean Chapman, whom he adored.

For many years, Dennis worked for the state of New York as a maintenance technician. He was a happy-go-lucky spirited person who liked to make others laugh. His favorite pastimes were visiting the Bronx, hanging out with friends, and watching his favorite television programs. In his youth, he enjoyed playing basketball, football, and fishing with his brothers. Dennis loved life and he loved people. He will be remembered for the sound of his laughter, his caring demeanor to do anything for anyone if they asked, his lighthearted approach to life’s troubles, and living his life as he wanted. He always said, “he liked to enjoy his life while he was living” and that he did.

Dennis leaves to cherish precious memories, his daughter Jennifer Wheeler Allen; three grandchildren, Sadie Latrice James, Trevon Allen, and Jay Allen; his mother, Lottie Morton; brother, Pastor Justin Dabbs; niece, Salena Dabbs-Payton; four nephews: Eric Hines (a.k.a. “My Buddy”), Justin T. Dabbs, JuQuavis Dabbs, Eric Sharpe, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Dennis was preceded in death by his brother, John Morton; father, Charles Edward Morton; grandmothers, Lola Dabbs and Queen Morton Spratley; and grandfathers, James D. Dabbs and Sunny E. Morton.
