Christy J. Mealo

December 5, 1926 — December 14, 2020

COLONIE – Christy J. Mealo, 94, of Colonie, entered into eternal rest on Monday, December 14, 2020 at St. Peter’s Hospital.

He was born and raised in Watervliet and was the son the late Nicholas and Grace Mealo. Chris served in the US Navy during WWII and the Korean War. He was recognized by President Truman and Navy Secretary for his service in the Philippine Islands and onboard the USS Yosemite. Chris was a disabled war veteran and a longtime proud member of the Joseph Zaloga American Legion Post.

Chris was employed at the Watervliet Arsenal for thirty five years. He served for many years with the New York State Environmental Conservation Police and member of NYS Conservation offices.

Chris was predeceased by his beloved wife Gloria in 2001. He is the cherished father of Susan Mealo and Linda (Jack) MacHaffie. Proud Papa of Amy (John) Garavelli and Lori (Scott) Barrett. Great grandfather of Aiden and John Garavelli and Harley Barrett.  He is the brother of the late Mary Balog and Thomas Mealo. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Many thanks to longtime friend, Vincent Glatz for his care of Chris, in his time of need.

Funeral services will be Friday morning at 10:30 at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Ave., Colonie. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Chris’s family on Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memory Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 440 New Karner Rd.  Albany, NY  12205.
