Cheryl A. Glenn

January 14, 1956 — September 18, 2019

Cheryl Anita Glenn (Sherry) transitioned this life on Wednesday September 18, 2019 in Albany, New York. Sherry recently retired from the New York State Department of Civil Service after a 41year career.  She was dedicated to achieving diversity and inclusion in her professional and personal life.

Sherry was born and raised in Buffalo, New York.  She attended Annunciation High School and graduated from Canisius College with a B.A. in Psychology.  Sherry was academically gifted.

Sherry was also an accomplished singer and performer.  Her rich, soulful voice was a joy to hear. If you close your eyes you can remember her singing  "I stood on the banks of Jordan". When not in church, Sherry's vocal gift was also shared in a choir with James Cleveland, a performance with her school in Germany and various theater events in the Albany area. She was a devoted servant of God, which led her to become a deacon of the Blessing Cornerstone Ministries under the leadership of Reverend Debra T. Poole.

Sherry was dedicated to her pet dogs and cats. She supported the Humane Society and local shelters. Sherry was also an avid bowler who also enjoyed crocheting and knitting.

Sherry was predeceased by her father Grover Glenn, her mother Juanita Smith, and her brother  Derrick Smith. She is survived by her siblings Veronica Seale (Peter) of Branchburg, NJ, Percy Smith, Jr. of Buffalo NY, and Eric Smith of  Lake Milton, OH. Sherry is also survived by her nieces and goddaughters Lesley and Kira Seale, as well as her nephew Nathaniel Smith. Sherry's family includes several cousins, in particular, Ray Robinson  (Denise) of Buffalo NY, with whom she grew up. Sherry's dearly devoted friends Pastor Debra T. Poole, Louis Bond and Xavier Skeeter joins us in mourning her loss.  Sherry will be sorely missed by great nephews, a host of family and  friends.  God bless and keep Sherry.

A Homegoing Service will be held at 10am Saturday, September 28 at Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church, 269 Spruce Street, Albany, NY. The Rev Debra T. Poole will officiate. A viewing will be held from 9:00 to 10:00 am prior to the service.

Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park in Colonie. Repass will follow back at the church following the burial.

Memorial donations may be made to Blessing Cornerstone Ministries, 27 Main Street, Cohoes, NY 12047, or the Humane Society of your choice.
