Troy - Brigitta M. Gilder,  of Troy, NY (Budapest, Hungary) passed away peacefully on the morning of July 25, 2024, surrounded by family and friends.

She is preceded by her father, Dr. Karoly Belso, who worked for the Hungarian government; her mother, Maria Czeigler Belso, a homemaker; brothers, Botond Belso and Gabor Belso and her grandmother, Reffy Hedwig, all of Budapest, Hungary.

She is survived by her son, Mark R. Gilder (Regina M. Gilder) and grandson Nicholas J. Gilder of Clifton Park, NY; her loving sisters, Ildiko Borbely of Champaign, Biborka Auranty of Marseilles, France, and Boglarda Petrovich of Gothenborg, Sweden; and her brother, Peter Belso of Cologne, Germany.

Born in 1935 in Budapest, Hungary, Brigitta studied ballet as a child. She left Hungary in 1956 during the Soviet-repressed Hungarian Revolution with her brother Gabor (a freedom fighter) and sister Ildiko.   After initially escaping to Austria, she came to the USA for a better life. Brigitta met her husband in Champaign, IL, at the University of Illinois. They eventually settled in Troy, NY where her husband worked as a Physicist at RPI.  After becoming a single mother, Brigitta took on various roles, working as an administrative assistant, court stenographer and in several retail, restaurant and hotel service positions. In her later years, she served as a private home healthcare provider, continuing this work up until her passing.  Brigitta was a passionate animal lover and a devoted caretaker of her beloved dog, Coco. She loved to dance and was an active participant at the Festival of Nations in Albany. Always on the move, she cherished time with her family and friends, traveled frequently and enjoyed daily walks with Coco. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Brigitta’s family on Sunday, September 15 from 2 to 5 pm at the Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Ave., Colonie.  The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00 am at St. Edward the Confessor Church in Clifton Park.
