518 869 1005 OBITUARY WELCH, BRIAN J.
ALBANY - Brian J. Welch, 63, of Albany, passed away on Sunday February 16, 2025. He was born in Albany and was the son of the late James T. and Patricia Cox Welch.
Brian was a New York State Corrections Officer at the Coxsackie Correctional Facility. Brian was an avid sports enthusiast; As a child he played youth hockey at RPI and was proud to be the goalie. He spent many years playing CYO Baseball and basketball. Some of his fondest memories were of him coaching his girls’ softball teams at Westland Hills and CYO basketball at Blessed Sacrament. He led Jaclyn and the biddy girls to an undefeated CYO championship. He often reminisced on the many laughs and triumphs of his coaching years. He took pride in watching Jay play football on Friday nights. Whether it was a road trip to watch Nicki and the Saint Rose softball team play doubleheaders, or a Niagara basketball game to cheer on Jaclyn, he never missed a game. He cherished family vacations. Hilton Head Island holds special memories. On one memorable excursion, Jay caught a shark (but Bee caught a bigger one!). In recent years, Brian spent his winters in Florida to visit Brianna and his grandsons. Brian’s sense of humor was contagious. He loved special occasions as they gave him the perfect opportunity to show off his dance moves. Occasionally, you could find him on the karaoke stage singing his signature song, “Maggie May”. Brian loved a great meal, especially if it involved the three B’s, butter, bread and beer. Above all else Brian loved and cherished his family. He would go to any length to give them what they needed. He loved being Poppy to Leo, Finn and Kyla. Our family will ensure he lives on in their hearts and through our memories.
Brian is the husband of Anjanette Geddes Welch. He is the father of Nicole Welch (Courtney Cardamone), Brianna (Jeremiah) Campbell, Jay (Danielle) Welch and Jaclyn Welch. He is the cherished Poppy to Leo, Finn and Kyla. Brian is the brother of Mary Burgess (Ed) and the late Sharon Brady (Paul survives) and Kathleen (Thomas) Carroll. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
