GUILDERLAND – It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Barbara Jean Hanley on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at the age of 86.
Born in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Chester and Bernice Ostrander. She graduated from Vincentian Institute in Albany. She began her working career at the New York Telephone Company and then at Daughters of Sarah Community for Seniors, until her retirement from the State University of New York.
Barbara was the devoted wife of 65 years to her soulmate and best friend Edmund H. Hanley; loving mother to Michael (Linda) and Teresa; grandmother (Gigi) to Melissa (Davon) and Olivia; and great grandmother to MJ, Angela, Skylah, Davon and Karter. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son Timothy Hanley and brother Richard Ostrander.
Barbara cherished time with her family and friends. She enjoyed camping trips, visiting Cape Cod, attending auctions, reading novels, and always having a jigsaw puzzle in progress on her card table. She was an avid crafter, creating beautiful ceramic pieces and designing folk art paintings with her husband, who would carve the wood shapes. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, and the Home Bureau. One of her favorite past-times was spending hours sharing her love of baking with her grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Barbara’s family on Thursday, February 20, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Avenue, Colonie with a prayer service to follow at 6:00 PM. Interment will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie, on Friday, February 21, 2025 at 10:00 AM.
