SCHENECTADY - Barbara Irene Hallett, 80, of Schenectady, passed away on October 17th surrounded by her daughters after a brave battle with ALS. Barbara was born in Concord, NH on April 22, 1944 to Robert and Ida Stone.
As a child, Barbara moved to Albany and eventually she met the love of her life, Richard Hallett. They moved to Schenectady and together they raised four daughters, Cheryl (Max) Borski, Kimberly (Edward) Pomykaj, Amy (Scott) Roach and Melissa (Marcus) DiGiovanni. Barbara was predeceased by her parents, her husband, her siblings Robert, Patricia, and Francis, and her great granddaughter Hadley.
Continuing on her legacy are her four daughters, her sister Sandra Barber, her grandchildren Heather (Yancey), Emily (Krista), Edward (Daisy), Amaya (Domenic), Hannah, and Marcus, and her great grandchildren whom she adored dearly, Pryor, Everett and Eloise.
Barbara devoted her life to caring for others; she was a nurse at Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital for over 30 years. In addition to her work at the hospital and raising four daughters of her own, Barbara took in and cared for her mother for seventeen years and then cared for her husband Richard when he too was diagnosed with ALS.
Barbara overcame many challenges growing up, but used those experiences to become an incredible wife, mother, nurse, friend, grandmother and Gigi. She had an incredible sense of humor and could always make you laugh. She loved her church family and being a member of the Rotterdam Elks. She enjoyed traveling, playing bingo, crafting and the casinos.
Barbara was a selfless woman who always put others before herself—her family will carry on her memory in their hearts. We are all blessed to have known her. It’s not goodbye, it’s see you later.
Barbara's life will be celebrated on October 27th at 2 pm at Messiah Lutheran Church, 2850 Guilderland Ave, Rotterdam, NY 12306. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Messiah Lutheran Church or The ALS Association (donate.als.org). To leave a message of condolence for the family, visit www.CannonFuneral.com
