Andrew J. Nemec

Colonie- Andrew (Andy) J. Nemec, 79, passed away Friday, March 11, 2022, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Jersey City, NJ and was the son of the late Andrew and Anna Nemec of Guttenberg, New Jersey. As a young man, Andy was an avid and highly accomplished baseball player. He channeled that love of the game and his passion to give back into coaching with the PAL (Police Athletic League) programs in Hudson County, New Jersey.

Andrew married his wife Mary on September 28,1963 and moved his family to Schoharie County in 1972. It was his lifelong dream to raise his family on a small farm. As a father, he was highly engaged with his children as a parent-coach with the baseball leagues in Schoharie. He was an active supporter of every sporting and extracurricular activity that his children were involved in.

For over 40 years Andy was a proud member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America where he was a member in both Northern New Jersey and the Capital District Region of New York. In his retirement, Andy took an active role in caregiving, teaching and supporting all his grandchildren’s interests and activities. He was ever present and available.

Andy and Mary developed an interest in antiques which evolved into a lifelong passion and partnership in finding and acquiring beautiful remnants of the past and the excitement of landing a “great deal.” He was an active outdoorsman and steward of the environment. Andy was in his element when he was caring for his farm animals, hunting, and fishing with his kids or his grandchildren. He loved living off the land and all it could provide.

Andy is survived by his wife, Mary Hurley Nemec, his sons; Drew (Ellen) Nemec and Mark (Lisa) Nemec, his daughter Nancy (Sean) McGee. Also, survived by his grandchildren Sara and Andrew Nemec, Leah and William Nemec, and Ryan and Riley McGee.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Andy’s family on Saturday March 26th from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Avenue, Colonie.
