James "Pete" R. Harrell

James “Pete” Harrell, age 83, passed away at Ellis Hospital on April 29, 2021.

Born in Troy, New York to the late John Nurney and Queen Ethel Harrell, Pete was the youngest of six children.  Educated in Troy, Pete went on to serve his country in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1955-1958. In 1990, he retired from Bendix, Green Island, after 32 years of service.  During his retirement, Pete spent several years as a volunteer for the Mont Pleasant Reformed Church.  He was an avid bowler and loved spending time with his family and friends.  He also had a passion for horses.

Pete is survived by his wife Rose of 57 years, children James Jr., Russell (Jennifer), Eric (Michelle), John Peter (Lynn) and Melissa “Renee” Harrell.  In addition, Pete is survived by his grandchildren James III, Brian, Cassandra, Monica, Erica, Chase, Marissa, Zachary, Brionna, Kaitlyn, Alexis, Chyanne, Jamie-Rose, and Marissa as well as three great-grandchildren.  He leaves behind several nephews and nieces who he was very close with as well as dear friends.  Pete was predeceased by his siblings Percy, Nurney “Buster,” David, Billy, and Sarah.

Calling hours for relatives and friends will be held Friday from 9:30-10:30 at Liberty Church, 1840 Albany St., Schenectady, NY 12304, followed by a funeral service from 10:30-11:30.  Burial service, immediately following, will be held at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd. Schuylerville, NY 12871.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association or a charity of your choice.
